A lovestruck Romeo sang the streets a serenade
Laying everybody low with a love song that he made
Finds a streetlight, steps out of the shade
Says something like, “You and me, babe, how about it?”
How this never made the charts amazes me. Several singers have declared this to be the quintessential love song, beautifully written and performed by Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits. Tapping into Shakespearean literature and bringing a contemporary story line to a fantastic melody, it’s not hard to see why Knopfler is held up as one of the greats of his era. And we’re not finished with him yet.
