Like Electric Light Orchestra, Chicago introduced a more orchestral sound to their music which gave them a distinctive sound during the mid 1970s. In my opinion, whilst they went on to have hits into the 1980’s, this is the very best of Chicago – a band that started out as Chicago Transit Authority, until the Chicago Transit Authority asked if they could have their name back!
A good measure of the quality of this as a song is the fully orchestrated version that you can find on YouTube and other places, featuring former Chicago front man, Peter Cetera – whilst his voice is not what it used to be, the arrangement of the song with more instrumentation stands up very, very well.
