I can’t even tell you why I like this song more than others.
It’s just a great example of those songs that were seemingly churned out by the American music factories in the early to mid 1960s. Maybe it is the fact that it ties the 50s and 60s together really well. Maybe it is the fact that it was amongst the last songs to come out of the States before the influence of the British Invasion took place. Maybe it is the naivety of the music and lyrics.
And if you are thinking that there was a more recent version of the song – you’re right. Mental As Anything had a top 20 hit with the same song in 1980.
